This week in America, we will celebrate our freedom.

There’ll be fireworks, parades, flag-waving, patriotic music, and cookouts.

No doubt, there will also be demonstrations, protests, and division. Because of our Constitution, we have the freedom to express our opinions and to voice our objections when we disagree with governmental policies and actions.

But the Bible talks about a different kind of freedom. If we are followers of Jesus, we are no longer in bondage to anger, bitterness, shame, or fear. He promised to set us free from anything that disturbs our peace of mind.

I pray that as you celebrate the freedom we have in the United States, you also celebrate your freedom in Christ.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Cor 3:17, HCSB).
