Last week I started talking about Bucket Lists. I wondered what would be the most important things to put on a life list.

Whether you dream of traveling to exotic places like Mount Kilimanjaro, taking on a crazy physical challenge such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, or creating the next great American novel, setting goals gives purpose to life. Making plans provides structure and creates anticipation, giving you something to look forward to, no matter your age. The philosopher Aristotle said, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

On the other hand, we have to face the fact that we will not live forever and we cannot do everything. A popular admonition today is, “Dream as if you’ll live forever, but live as if you only have today.”

So in the midst of our dreaming and making a Bucket List, realize that nothing in this life is more important than knowing where we are going in the next. [Tweet “Nothing in this life is more important.”]The Bible tells us that our physical life is only temporary, and that after we die, we have an eternal destiny.

Whether that destiny is in heaven with Christ or in hell with Satan, that destiny is determined by the choice we make in this life. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me.”

It’s only though faith in God’s only Son that we can know what our eternal destiny will be.

That’s number one on my Absolute Best Bucket List: Know your destiny.

I’ve already accomplished it.

What do you think? Would you put this on your Bucket List, or can you already check it off? Why or why not?
