Easter Monday.
Leftover candy, remnants of fake grass, and perhaps hidden eggs never found.
What are we to do when the celebration is over? Clean up the mess and go on as if it never happened?
That’s not what the disciples did, and we shouldn’t either.
If Resurrection Sunday means anything, it means new life. That’s why eggs and bunnies and flowers came to be associated with Easter. Because, when Christ left the grave, He made it possible for each of us to have a new life. He conquered death. So shouldn’t our life in between Easter Sundays demonstrate that?
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11, ESV).
What does “give life to your mortal bodies” mean, exactly? I think it means that we no longer have to live with the shadow of death and fear; we can enjoy the peace and inner joy that comes from knowing we will never die–when our mortal bodies die, which they will, of course, we will live with Jesus in heaven for eternity. And that is a glorious day worth looking forward to.
So let the Spirit live in you, and let His light shine through you. Because when you know Jesus, every day is Resurrection Day.
Because Jesus is alive.
