The Rejected Stone: [Jesus said:]”Have you never read the Scripture passage: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.'” (Mark 12:10 GW)

While Jesus was in Jerusalem preparing for Passover (and with the knowledge that He would be going to the Cross), the religious experts tested Him with difficult questions, trying to trap Him so they would have reason to arrest Him. He answered them using stories and Scriptures they were familiar with but did not understand.

In this verse, He quoted Psalm 118:22, which of course prophesied about Him. But the religious leaders still didn’t get it. By proceeding with their plot to arrest and kill Jesus, they would be fulfilling prophecy. Without realizing it, they helped to carry out God’s plan to save mankind. Yet, in doing so, they lost their own souls.

Don’t be like those religious “experts” and miss the significance of these events. Don’t reject the Cornerstone; instead thank God that He sent His only Son to die on the cross so that your sins could be wiped away. “Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God’s glory.” (Romans 3:23 GW)
