Do you ever wonder where your weird dreams come from?

The other night, I dreamed I was supposed to act in a play. Now, my second major in college was drama and I’ve been in numerous productions. But in this dream, I had signed up to work backstage managing props. The director decided I should also play one of the major characters. Unfortunately, I was so busy working on the props that I didn’t have time to learn my lines or take part in the rehearsals. The day of the performance came, the house was packed, and I finally grabbed a copy of the script, only to realize there was no way I could memorize my lines before I had to go onstage. And I had no idea about the blocking–where I was supposed to stand and when I should move, etc.

Thankfully, I woke up before time came for my entrance!

Many of my dreams lately have to do with being late for an event, being unprepared, or forgetting to do something of great importance. See a trend here?

I have to remind myself that this life, with all its tasks and demands, is temporary. I am being prepared for something of greatest importance–eternal life with God. The Bible says, While we are in this tent, we sigh. We feel distressed because we don’t want to take off the tent, but we do want to put on the eternal house. Then eternal life will put an end to our mortal existence. God has prepared us for this and has given us his Spirit to guarantee it. So we are always confident” (2 Corinthians 5:4-6, GW).

Despite my bad dreams, I have already been prepared for life beyond the grave. So I can relax in the confidence that God is in control.

What is your greatest nightmare, and how does knowing God is in control help you overcome the worry and the fear?
